Gender Bender!

Okay, so impatient me really wanted to find out what the sex of our baby was, so at our last appointment, three weeks ago, I asked our midwife to give us an ultrasound. She agreed and after looking, with a very confident tone of voice told us, "I'm 80% sure you are having a girl. I mean, I wouldn't go out and buy anything, but I'm pretty sure." Well, I was crushed because Jesse and I were both really hoping for a boy, but as the three weeks passed, we looked at all the positives and were getting really excited to have a girl. So, this past Thursday, we had our BIG ultrasound that measured the baby and made sure everything was healthy. Jesse and I kept saying "Oh, is that her hand by her face" and so on. At the end, the ultrasound technician said "Do you already know what you're having?" and we said "Yeah, we're having a girl." Then she proceeds to tell us, "Well, I have a big surprise for you, you're having a boy!" I almost screamed and went into total shock. Yep, there on the screen, clear as day, was a baby penis. I don't know why our midwife was so sure, but it's pretty clear we're having a boy! People keep asking us if we're so excited since that's what we wanted and I think both Jesse and I are warming up to the idea again and getting excited since we had finally been warming up to the idea of having a girl. Ha! Oh, and I also stupidly went and bought a bunch of cute bedding off craigslist that is very much girly, so I guess I'll have to start over. :) So, as my sister Renata said, "I defied the odds." Since there are 17 girls in our family and only 2 boys. Stay tuned for pictures of Liam Jobst Frey come March 1st!

Milo!

So, Jesse has really wanted another cat for awhile, so when we found out that my co-worker had a Russian Blue (same type of cat as Meow) that she was giving away, Jesse jumped at the chance. I was hesitant at first, but after considering it, I figure this way Meow can take his aggression out on the new kitty instead of the new baby. He's pretty cute and looking around his environment. He's only been here about three hours and already Meow has wailed on him pretty hard. Jesse and I are doing our best to keep Milo and Meow apart. Let's hope they start to get along soon!

MEOW!!!

Okay, so here is FINALLY some more news on our precious cat, Meow (or as we commonly refer to him Monkey or when he is bad, Meowby St. John). He is the funniest cat and we are so glad to have him. He is very curious and unlike most cats, runs towards loud noises. He likes to stick his head in the printer when we turn it on or stare at the vacuum when we vacuum. He also loves people and tends to get pretty hyper when others come over. He is quite the talker and meows at us all the time. He likes water and has the tendency to jump in the shower when we are in there. He also loves being held like a baby and cuddling. To say the least, we think he's a dog at heart, one that has dreams of escaping the house and chasing crows. He is the best cat ever and I don't think we could ever find one as cool as him. Let's hope he doesn't get too jealous of the baby when he/she comes in March!

PREGNANT!!!!!

Okay, so I know that I'm by far the worst blogger on the planet and all of you have been anxiously awaiting an update on our lives. Well, I think this is the biggest news that we could have (other than buying a house, which hopefully will happen soon), so here it is...I am 8 weeks pregnant! We found out about a month ago and got an ultrasound last week and everything checks out normal. Our baby is going to be due on March 1st (so thank goodness this year is not a leap year!). We are excited and scared, but I don't think the reality of it has truly sunk in yet. We are hoping to buy a camera this week and I'll try my best to keep you all updated more often. :) It's easier now because I'm home for the summer, which is doubly nice because I'm exhausted and a bit queasy.

P.S. To all of you who were wondering (ahem, David Dear) Meow is getting really big and is a super funny cat and I'll post pictures as soon as we get the camera.

Meow!

Jesse is a big animal person, unlike myself, so he's been trying to convince me, ever since we got married, to get a pet. I've refused thus far, but last weekend, we went up to my grandma's house and met two stray kittens that she found in her backyard. After holding one of them and seeing how loveable he was, I agreed to take him home. Jesse chose the name Meow and I think it really suits him.
The day after we brought him home, a coworker of mine, who breeds cats, came over to our house and helped us give him and bath and pick fleas off of him for 1 1/2 hours. The poor guy! He is much happier now that he's not itching all the time. He is a really wonderful, smart cat (especially since I've never really liked cats and always thought them mean animals)! He really likes being held and walks around our feet while we're walking (Jesse has accidently kicked him a few times.) Everyday he is getting braver and explores new areas of the house. We're trying hard to train him to not go on tables and scratch the post we got, instead of the carpet. We are taking him today to get his shots. I kind of wish he could stay a kitty forever, but I know that can't happen.

Our wedding pictures

I forgot to say how excited I was to get the CD of all our wedding pictures taken by my awesome friend Jeff Youngren. We took them two weeks after our wedding in a field near our home. We ordered a bunch of them back in July and immediately put them in frames around our house. They are so artistic and just the kind of pictures I wanted.

The First Blog

Hi friends! So, yes, I've started a blog. Some may say it's just for Nicole's entertainment, but it's much more than that. I want to share with the world all about my everyday life and blah, blah, blah. I hope you enjoy! :)
